The Configuration Space Method for Kinematic Design of Mechanisms (The MIT Press) de Elisha Sacks

Descripción - Críticas 'The elegance of configuration space is well known, especially in path planning problems. Amazingly, configuration space is also an effective technique for the analysis and design of kinematic mechanisms. It was Sacks and Joskowicz who developed the technique, and their book is essential for anyone interested in either the methods or the applications.'--Matthew T. Mason, Director, Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University Reseña del editor A novel algorithmic approach to mechanism design based on a geometric representation of kinematic function called configuration space partitions. This book presents the configuration space method for computer-aided design of mechanisms with changing part contacts. Configuration space is a complete and compact geometric representation of part motions and part interactions that supports the core mechanism design tasks of analysis, synthesis, and tolerancing. It is the first general algorithmic treatment of the kinematics of higher pairs with changing contacts. It will help designers detect and correct design flaws and unexpected kinematic behaviors, as demonstrated in the book's four case studies taken from industry. After presenting the configuration space framework and algorithms for mechanism kinematics, the authors describe algorithms for kinematic analysis, tolerancing, and synthesis based on configuration spaces. The case studies follow, illustrating the application of the configuration space method to the analysis and design of automotive, micro-mechanical, and optical mechanisms. Appendixes offer a catalog of higher-pair mechanisms and a description of HIPAIR, an open source C++ mechanical design system that implements some of the configuration space methods described in the book, including configuration space visualization and kinematic simulation. HIPAIR comes with an interactive graphical user interface and many sample mechanism input files. The Configuration Space Method for Kinematic Design of Mechanisms will be a valuable resource for students, researchers, and engineers in mechanical engineering, computer science, and robotics. Biografía del autor Elisha Sacks is Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University. Leo Joskowicz is Professor at the School of Engineering and Computer Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The configuration space method for kinematic tolerance ~ Abstract. We present an overview of our kinematic tolerance analysis algorithm for mechanical systems with parametric part tolerances. The algorithm constructs a variation model for the system, derives worst-case bounds on the variation, and helps designers find unexpected failure modes, such as jamming and blocking.

INTRODUCTION TO KINEMATICS AND MECHANISMS ~ Machine Definition 2 DEFINITIONS • Kinematic chain: It is a linkage of elements and joints that transmit a controlled output motion related to a given input motion. • Mechanism: It is a kinematic chain where one element (or more) are fixed to the reference framework (which can be in motion) • Machine: Group of resistant elements (which usually contain mechanisms) thought to

A State Space Method for Kinematic Optimization of ~ Problems of optimal kinematic synthesis of mechanisms and machines are formulated in a state space setting that allows for treatment of large scale systems with general design objectives and constraints. An iterative kinematic analysis method is presented.

What is Kinematics? Kinematics - Design of Mechanisms ~ Kinematics is the study of geometry and motion. Machines as simple as livers, machines such as James Watt’s steam engine and the industrial robots such as PUMA all are composed of mechanisms whether simple, complex or combination of many simple and complex mechanisms. These mechanisms are governed by Kinematics – the study of geometry and motion.

3. ANALYTICAL KINEMATICS ~ In planar mechanisms, kinematic analysis can be performed either analytically or graphically. In this course we first discuss analytical kinematic analysis.
