Solidor è nato nel 1962 nell'entroterra selvaggio della Guiana francese, nella cittadina di Grand Citron, nel distretto di Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, da madre indiana e padre aristocratico francese del quale si persero le tracce subito dopo la sua nascita. Fin da piccolo André ha dimostrato una forte sensibilità visiva e un notevole talento nel disegno. All'età di 14 anni il giovane André fu mandato a Haiti per lavorare al raccolto in una piantagione di cassava e fu là, nel più imprevedibile dei luoghi, che scopri la fotografia. L'ispirazione giunse da un fotografo della rivista Life che passava da quelle parti per documentarne la povertà. Egli divenne amico del giovane e sensibile Solidor e ne coltivò il talento. Fu così che André apprese, con sua grande gioia e sorpresa, che la fotografia sarebbe stata la sua missione nella vita e la sua via di fuga dal bisogno, oltre che il suo biglietto d'ingresso nel meraviglioso mondo dell'arte.
