Descripción - Reseña del editor Cytokine Effector Functions in Tissues discusses the cytokines networks in the context of the specific-tissue environment. It is an up-to-date collection of articles that addresses the specific issue of how the cytokines are able to condition tissue specific homeostasis. The book helps the reader understand how cytokines network inside the tissues and highlights whether tissue-protection or exacerbation will be finally controlled. It describes the cytokines detected and regulated in different tissues, such as the brain, lungs, spleen, liver, pancreas and intestine, also addressing the issue of timing in specific cell types. Categorizes the cytokines based primarily on tissue and target cellsEmphasizes different roles and outcomes observed during innate and adaptive responseRepresents a rapid guide to cytokines in health and disease in tissue and organ contextPresents a different view on how known mediators may work if analyzed in a different perspective, determining the final outcome on tissue-specific target cells Biografía del autor Maria Foti is Assistant Professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca. She is an internationally recognized immunologist/molecular biologist with experience in both academic science and biotechnology. She has worked for several years in the field of molecular immunology and cell biology of Dendritic Cells. She studied the molecular events associated with Dendritic cell early responses, suggesting the role of Dendritic Cells as the key players in the innate immune responses. Dr. Foti's lab has a focus on cytokine research including the role of cytokines produced by Dendritic cells in response to pathogens. She has been also involved in projects for the selection of biomarkers using the microarray technology in the field of cancer and Autoimmunity.Massimo Locati is Full Professor of General Pathology and Immunology at the Department of Medical Biotechnologies and Translational Medicine at the University of Milan and chief of the Leukocyte Biology Lab at the Humanitas Clinical and Research Center in Rozzano, Milan. His current scientific research interests are represented by cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in resolution of inflammation, identification of the biological role of chemokine decoy receptors, definition of chemokine receptors signalling properties and associated transcriptional events investigation of molecular mechanisms supporting macrophage activation and polarization, and role of regulatory RNA in innate immunity and immune-mediated diseases.

Cytokine Therapy - an overview / ScienceDirect Topics ~ Cytokine therapies are designed to alter immune homeostasis with the tumor and provoke or disinhibit immune effectors. Although both IFN-α (Fig. 79.5) and IL-2 (Fig. 79.6) have been approved for the treatment of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma and melanoma, no randomized studies have demonstrated substantial (> 10%) efficacy and the high doses necessary to mediate antitumor .

Chapter 13: Cytokines - Cytokines act only on cells ~ A number of cytokine receptors signal via the JAK/STAT pathway. These include the receptors for IL-2, IL-3, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12 and IFN-γγγγ. Cytokine receptor subunits are associated with JAK kinases . 1.- Binding of cytokine causes dimerization of receptors and activation of JAK kinases . 2.- Activated JAK kinases
Cytokine, Growth Factor, and Chemokine Ligand Database ~ These proteins mediate a number of functions, ranging from effects on cell growth, differentiation, survival, and a number of effector activities. The main purpose of this unit is to provide an easy‐to‐use reference summarizing some of the current information on well‐established cytokine, growth factore, and chemokine ligands.
Cytokines and Effector/Regulatory Cells Characterization ~ In this sense, diverse mechanisms have been implicated in the physiopathogenesis of cutaneous lupus erythematosus such as environmental factors (ultraviolet light exposure, drugs, etc.), keratinocyte apoptosis, genetic susceptibility, B cell hyperactivity, the interaction of the innate and cell-mediated immunity, cytokine and chemokine release, and uncontrolled and persistent effector T cell .

Cytokines: Types and Functions / ProSpec ~ Cytokine receptor proteins are multi-subunit structures that bind ligands and at the same time possess functions as signal transducers due to their intrinsic tyrosine kinase. Many receptors often share common signal transducing receptor components in the same family, which explains, at least in part, the functional redundancy of cytokines.
Cytokines in clinical cancer immunotherapy ~ Cytokines are soluble proteins that mediate cell-to-cell communication. Based on the discovery of the potent anti-tumour activities of several pro-inflammatory cytokines in animal models, clinical research led to the approval of recombinant interferon-alpha and interleukin-2 for the treatment of several malignancies, even if efficacy was only modest.
Pro-inflammatory Cytokines, Biomarkers, Genetics and the ~ Results suggest that T(H)17 cells, through the production of both IL-22 and IL-17, might have essential functions in host defence and in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis. IL-22, as an effector cytokine produced by T cells, mediates the crosstalk between the immune system and epithelial cells. Lowes et al. 26, 2008
Cytokines ppt - SlideShare ~ -Majority of cytokine receptors are in Class I and Class II families -These cytokine receptors lack signaling motifs, this was puzzling to researchers -IFN-γ was studied because of it’s ability to block viral replication like other interferons However, this IFN plays immunoregulatory role which lead to understanding the process of signal transduction through cytokine receptors
